Muhammed Frederick Shand, MD

Muhammed Frederick Shand, MD, is a fellowship-trained laryngologist, specializing in voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders. Growing up in Virginia, he graduated from George Mason University with a degree in biochemistry. He subsequently attended the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC, where he earned his medical doctorate. He was recognized for his dedication and compassionate patient care with membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Societies.

Dr. Shand treats every patient as if they were a family member, emphasizing the importance of shared decision making and empowering patients with knowledge about their medical conditions and treatment options. His specialized training makes him uniquely qualified for care of the professional voice, including singers, teachers, speakers, and others who rely on their voice. He has particular interest in vocal fold microsurgery, vocal cord paralysis, laryngeal reinnervation, management of dysphagia, gender-affirming care, and R-CPD.

He completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency training at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas and pursued further specialization with a fellowship in Laryngology at the esteemed UCLA Voice Center for Medicine and the Arts.
