Benjamin Rafii, MD, is board-certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery with special expertise in the treatment of voice, airway, throat, and swallowing disorders, and thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He treats patients at Beach Cities ENTS in Torrance, California.

Dr. Rafii began his education in his hometown of Los Angeles at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he graduated magna cum laude with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science in molecular, cell, and developmental biology. He then moved to the Bay Area for medical school, where he completed his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine. He continued his education in New York City, where he completed an internship and residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at New York University School of Medicine before finally returning to Los Angeles for a highly coveted fellowship in laryngology and care of the professional voice at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Voice Center for Medicine and the Arts. 

Dr. Rafii has extensive experience in treating elite singers, actors, and other vocal professionals. He uses advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technology to treat a wide range of conditions affecting the voice, throat, and airway. He is an expert in providing awake, in-office vocal cord procedures, including vocal cord injections, biopsies, and laser therapy.

Dr. Rafii’s fellowship-honed experience in preserving the nerves of the voice box, in combination with his training under many of the best thyroid surgeons in New York City, also give him a unique skill set in the surgical treatment of patients with benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, using delicate vocal cord nerve-sparing techniques. 

Dr. Rafii believes strongly in the principle of delivering thoughtful, detailed, and compassionate medical care that is individualized to the unique needs of each patient. He also values the principle of life-long learning, and holds a volunteer faculty position at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he teaches and supervises surgical residents on a monthly basis. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and a post-graduate fellow with the American Laryngological Association. 

In his spare time, Dr. Rafii loves to play tennis, soccer, and beach volleyball, dabbles in martial arts, and practices yoga regularly. He is passionate about music and has played classical piano since the age of 6, and has recently begun to explore jazz piano. Dr. Rafii is also an avid traveler and loves the outdoors. 

Dr. Rafii is trilingual in English, Spanish, and Farsi and offers specialized, patient-focused care for men and women of the South Bay and neighboring areas. He welcomes new and existing patients to Beach Cities ENTS.
